According to the provincial Ministry of Health, COVID-19-related hospitalizations and intensive care admissions continued to decline in B.C. on Friday.
The number of coronavirus patients in British Columbia’s ICU on Friday was 46, the lowest amount since last summer.
In B.C. hospitals, there are 368 test-positive COVID-19 patients, which includes both those with serious illnesses and those who were in for other reasons and tested positive by chance.
The number of hospitalizations in each category is not reported in the ministry’s daily update. Officials believe that over 40% of hospitalizations are accidental.
Only persons for whom a positive or negative result can guide treatment or care decisions are given PCR tests in B.C. Persons who are admitted to the hospital, pregnant women, people who are at risk of a more severe illness and are eligible for COVID-19 treatments, and people who live or work in congregate living settings with others who are at risk are all included.
Others with COVID-19 symptoms are unable to obtain a PCR test and are so excluded from daily case statistics.
Rapid antigen testing, on the other hand, is becoming more widely available in the province. Rapid tests for at-home use are now available for free at partner pharmacies around the province for persons aged 50 and up.
Some firms in B.C. have embraced mask mandates, while others have maintained their restrictions.
As of Friday, British Columbians no longer have to wear masks in low-risk, indoor public venues, a development that has some people ecstatic – and others worried concerning their safety.
Dr. Bonnie Henry, the Provincial Health Officer, stated at a news conference on Thursday that while some people will continue to wear masks and certain establishments may ask customers to do so, masks are no longer needed by law. “That is something we must support. We must acknowledge that we each have our own set of hazards and weaknesses “Henry remarked.
Masks will be encouraged but not required in places where physical separation is difficult to maintain, such as public transportation and B.C. Ferries.
