What Are Thunderstorms:

A Thunderstorm, also known as an electrical storm or a lightning storm, is defined by the presence of lightning and its acoustic effect on the Earth’s atmosphere, which is known as thunder. A thunderstorm, at its most basic level of explanation, is a rain shower with thunder. Isn’t that simple?

But, what exactly is thunder? Lightning creates a noise when it flashes across the sky. That noise is thunder, as you may have guessed. It’s possible that you hear thunder but don’t see lightning because you’re too far away from the storm or simply missed the hit. Thunderstorm warnings are issued in a variety of ways to keep people, organizations, and communities safe from storms. We’ll go over thunderstorm watches and warnings from the National Weather Service, smartphone alerts, horn alerts, and the Storm Prediction Center’s Outlooks in this part.

Because lightning can strike up to 10 miles distant from a storm cell, we recommend that all warnings be set at this distance or higher.

Do’s & Don’ts When In A Thunderstorm:

The Best Ways to Protect Yourself in a Thunderstorm

DO’s:

  • Make an emergency supply kit.

Putting together an emergency pack for a thunderstorm entails gathering disaster and survival supplies. Water, nonperishable food, a torch with additional batteries, first-aid kits, sleeping bags and blankets, and toiletries are all essential items.

  • Protect your home and the area around it.

Bring your dogs inside before the storm and dispose of any broken or rotten tree limbs. Fix everything that needs to be fixed in your home, and don’t leave any potentially dangerous stuff lying around.

  • Keep up to date

Keep track of what’s going on. Listen to the radio, watch the news on TV, and read the newspaper so you know what is going on outside and you are aware about the situations. To stay informed, keep up with the weather updates.

  • After the last strike, stay indoors for at least 30 minutes.

Even after the storm has passed, don’t go outside right away. After the final lightning strike, stay inside for at least thirty minutes. The more time you wait, the better.

Don’ts:

  • Don’t Touch Metal or Electrical Things:

Do not unplug any electronics or touch any electrical outlets during a thunderstorm. Use cordless phones, microwaves, laptops, televisions, and air conditioners sparingly. Avoid touching metal things and avoid touching plumbing pipes.

  • Don’t Be in Water:

Get out of the water if you’re in a pool, a beach, or a lake. Even if you’re at home, avoid using running water. Do not wash your hands or utensils. Do not shower or take a bath during a thunderstorm. When water is passed through metal piles, electricity is  generated. During a lightning storm, you should stay as far away from the water as possible.

  • Don’t Take Shelter Under a Tree:

During a thunderstorm, taking cover behind a tree is a horrible idea. Tall things are struck by lightning. You could be harmed or injured if the tree you’re taking cover under is struck. Keep your distance from trees.

  • Don’t Be Near Windows:

Stay away from the windows and close them. Try to stay in the house’s interior rooms. A window provides lightning with a direct path to strike.

Now you have all the information you need to stay safe during the upcoming months of weather uncertainty. Despite these precautions, thunderstorms result in a high number of fatalities due to accidents, which is why accident insurance is necessary to safeguard oneself and loved ones.
